Have you ever had the misfortune of losing your keys? It’s happened to almost everyone at some point. The fear of not being able to find them is powerful. Plus, when you’re in the process of frantically trying to locate your keys, you could forget something else important (like your wallet). If this has happened to you more than once, it may be time to make some changes to where you store them. Below is a list of 5 tips to never lose your keys again.
1. The Front Door
One way to never misplace your keys is to hang them on a nail or hook directly next to your front door. This way you always know where to find them when you’re ready to leave your home. Driving a nail into your wall may not be allowed if you rent an apartment or
townhome. Be sure to check with your landlord or in your rental agreement on what’s allowed where you live. If you own your own home, check the wall for studs and wiring to be sure you don’t accidentally drive the nail through an electrical line or some other object. If you choose to hang a coat rack along the wall, you can always slip your keys over one of the hooks.
2. In the Car
If the area you live in is relatively safe, you can always leave your keys in your vehicle above the visor on the driver’s side. It’s easy and effective because it is so discreet. However, this is not an ideal location to use often as it could lead to someone possibly stealing your car since the doors have to be left unlocked. On the plus side, at least you will never forget your keys again.
3. Under a Mat
Another place you could keep your keys if you would like to store them somewhere outside your home is beneath the mat to your front door. It’s on your way to your car anyway, and if you step over it every day, you will never forget to check it. It should be noted though that if the area you live in has a high crime rate you may not want to leave your keys outside of your home. They could easily become discovered and end up disappearing on you.
4. The Same Coat Pocket
Part of the reason people forget important things is that they are overwhelmed with too many commitments and not enough hours in the day. This can lead to misplacing more than just keys. The best way to deal with this is to leave your keys in your coat pocket. Do not switch pockets at random and don’t leave them in a coat you don’t wear often as you may forget you wore a different jacket.
5. A Lanyard
A lanyard is a great way to keep your keys on you without the fear of losing them. It has a metal latch on one end that hooks right into your belt loop and the other connects to your keychain. Whether you’re wearing jeans or khakis, you can rest assured your keys will always be with you. You can slide the lanyard in your pocket, or you can leave them dangling free at your side. This method is best if you do a lot of physical labor such as working in a retail position.
6. Add Keychains
Another method for not losing your keys is to add a few keychains to them. It makes your keys a bit bulkier in terms of width, so they are easier to grab onto. Having a greater width makes it easier to feel inside of pants pockets and coat pockets. Also, if you happen to have a purse, having keychains on your keyring makes it easier to pull out if you have not organized your purse pockets in a while. The keychains take up more space and prevent your keys from falling in between papers.
If you follow this guide, you will not ever have to worry about losing your keys ever again. Just choose the tip that works best for you. The result is less stress for you which will improve your overall health and help things run more smoothly in your life.
