Who doesn’t like spending a lot of time with their friends and family when the weather is nice? You want to make sure that you’re getting everything to look great and that’s not always easy. So what should you be doing in order to get your yard and your home ready for an outdoor party?
1. Mow the Lawn
This is going to be the first thing that you want to do because it makes sure that your yard looks its best when you’re getting ready for your party. When everyone comes over you want things to look their best after all, and mowing your lawn is one way to do that.
2. Get Some Games
Outdoor games are always going to be a great choice for an outdoor party. People love playing horseshoes or volleyball or just about anything. By having a few games you’re going to have a lot more fun for your party, no matter how many people are there or how old they are.
3. Get a Tent
You don’t necessarily need a tent with sides or anything and this isn’t the type of tent you’d use when you go camping. Rather, you want something that’s going to keep you out of the sun so you can sit out and talk without having to worry about getting burned throughout the day. A tent makes it a whole lot easier to stay cooler too.
4. Get Some Food
You’re definitely going to need food for your party so make sure you’re stocking up on some of the favorites like hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and pop. Your friends and family are definitely going to want something to eat and drink while they’re over and if you feed them they’re going to stay longer.
5. Use Chairs
Your guests are going to want to sit down. So make sure you have enough chairs for everyone. Even if your uncle never sits down at a barbeque you want to make sure there’s a place for him to sit if he suddenly decides to. No one wants to be forced to stand all day even if they normally would.
6. Have Plenty of Lighting
If your party is going to start in the middle of the day you might not think about needing extra light. But if your party is (or might) extend into the night you’re definitely going to want to look for something to help brighten up the area. No one wants to be left entirely in the dark after all.
7. Add Some Decorations
You could just invite everyone over to spend the day and not have a specific ‘party’ but you’re going to have a whole lot more fun with decorations. So why not head out and get something that will be a little bit fun and a whole lot of ‘cool’ to go along with it. You could go with decorative lights, streamers, or just about anything you want and you’ll definitely be happy with the results.
8. Keep Out Bugs
You definitely don’t want bugs spoiling your party and that means getting some bug spray, some bracelets and some lanterns or other methods of getting bugs away. You’re also going to want to get rid of any standing water that could attract them to your party. Your guests definitely won’t be staying long if bugs are attacking them.
9. Have Some Music
For any kind of party you’re going to have a whole lot of fun with music. Even if it’s just in the background you’re going to have a chance to listen and enjoy it. Of course, your friends and family are going to have a whole lot more fun if they can still hear each other so make sure it’s not too loud, but enough that you can dance if you want to.
10. Have Some Kid Friendly Activities
Just because you have backyard games doesn’t mean that you’re going to have your kids occupied. You want something that will keep them having fun because bored kids means that the adults have to leave sooner. A sprinkler, some bubbles or even just some chalk can help your kids have a good time and stay off on their own.
11. Straighten Up the House
You may not think about straightening up inside your house for an outdoor party but the truth is that you’ll have people through the house too. Chances are when they arrive they’ll come inside first and they’ll need to get to the bathroom too. Not to mention anyone who helps you carry food outside or games. Make sure everything looks presentable so that when people walk inside they’re just as impressed as when they walk outside.
12. Make Activities Last All Day
Don’t just set up a few games and expect that to be all. Have ideas that you can use throughout the day in case your guests want to stay longer or you’re having a lot of fun. Things like an outdoor movie with a projector and a sheet can be fun. Having a photo booth in one corner can make for some interesting pictures or even having some stuff set up for s’mores later on in the evening can be a great idea.
13. Always Have Sunscreen
Even though most families will bring sunscreen you want to have some extra just in case. No one wants to get sunburned and if it happens it can definitely spoil your day. So make sure to have a little extra sunscreen on hand and easily accessible in case someone forgets or just to make things more convenient when it’s needed.
There are plenty of ways that you can have a great party and all you really need to do is think about the things that you want. The work involved might be a little extensive, but if you do a little at a time to get ready you’ll find that it comes together quite well. And your guests are going to have a great time while they’re with you as well. That’s what it’s about after all.
